-Learn to accept things as they are - we often want things to be a certain way and get upset when they are not. Mindfulness is a way to accept what we are feeling and thinking in the present without judgment.
-Begin to reframe our fears and thoughts - often we are reacting in a fearful way to changes that may be occurring around us. Mindfulness allows us to see a bigger picture and focus on what is the reality of the situation instead of fears which may be leading things astray.
-Allow for solutions to arise - often fear and judgment cloud our way of looking at things. When we settle into the present our mind can relax and focus again on opportunities and solutions to problems.
So how can you practice mindfulness?
-Sit comfortably in a quiet room
-Close your eyes and focus on your breath
-When your mind wanders (as it will) bring it back to a focus on the breath
-Allow your mind to relax and be in the present
-Sit like this for 10 minutes to begin. Increase the time as you get more comfortable with the practice
